In the popular district of Bezuidenhout, Studio Evo produced a design for a roof structure on a corner apartment. This 1930s property is to be extended with a beautiful, spacious living room offering a view as far as the woods of The Hague and a kitchen with a sun terrace. The ambitious client not only wants more space, but is also investing in a very sustainable heat-recovery system by Itho Daalderop. In this way, we are making real steps towards sustainable housing stock, including in existing urban areas. This type of apartment originally had many small rooms, and this corner apartment is also largely north-east facing. The existing first floor will eventually comprise bedrooms. In the new, well-insulated construction, the living areas will now be south-west facing, with an enormous glass façade. The heat that will then be ‘harvested’ there from the sun will be transported to all the other rooms via the heat-recovery system.
