Rooftop Greenhouse UrbanFarmers

11.00 am – 5.00 pm several English bilingual tours: UrbanFarmers is a unique urban farm that produces ultra-fresh vegetables and fish on a roof! Here, they use an aquaponic system to recycle the wastewater from their fish farm to fertilise their plants. The plants can purify the wastewater which is then recycled to raise the fish. ‘Nothing is fresher and more local than food you grow on your own balcony.’

UrbanFarmers is located on the roof of a distinctive building in The Hague: the former Philips telecommunication building built in 1950 and designed by the grandfather of famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. The Municipality of The Hague is now calling the building ‘The New Farm’; UrbanFarmers is just the first of a series of new tenants that will transform the building into a hotspot for urban farming. The design of this site for UrbanFarmers was created by Space&Matter.
